Project Category: Research & Market Assessments
Client / Partner: NRC – Norwegian Refugee Council
Location: Somaliland
Agrizone conducted a comprehensive assessment of the milk value chain to identify key opportunities, constraints, and market dynamics affecting producers, traders, processors, and consumers across Somaliland.
The study provides critical insights needed to strengthen the dairy sector and improve livelihoods for households involved in milk production and marketing.
Our Approach & Methodology
To ensure accuracy and practical relevance, Agrizone used a mixed-methods approach that included:

Field surveys with dairy farmers and milk collectors

Key informant interviews with processors, traders, and cooperatives

Focus group discussions with producer groups and women’s associations

Market observation across key trading hubs

Desk review of existing reports, policies, and market data

Gender and inclusion analysis to understand women and youth roles in the value chain

This methodology ensured a holistic understanding of production, handling, processing, trading, and consumption patterns.
